Operation: The Godfather -October 2016

It all started as a plan to get a fellow Enlightened Agent his black illuminator badge.  A stalwart of the local ENLSA, he had aided many others to achieve this lofty goal, but had never actually been rewarded with the badge himself.

It was some time since Operation Bigmother, so I thought that we could start with that, but expand on it.  At first I thought that just adding a few extra layers would be fine, but then someone suggested bringing in our colleagues in Western Australia, and then another suggested contacting fellow frogs in Port Lincoln and before long the plan had grown from the 25 layers of Bigmother to 69 planned layers, covering 95% of the population of South Australia and involving agents in 4 states of the country.

Plans were drawn and many agents without black illuminator badges were recruited to throw the fields.  Several weeks before planned operation day, @Pol42 and @BobTheFurry headed to Port Lincoln to hand over keys and meet the local agents.  Although Port Lincoln is in our state, the 6 hour drive to there has meant that there was not a lot of regular contact between them and the Enlightened in Adelaide.  It was great to meet the Port Lincoln frogs in person, and besides, there were lots of unique visits to be had.  @RideTheTiger headed to the SE to gather other keys.  There were no local ENL agents in Bourke, our northern anchor, so a family of agents from ENLSA agreed to stop off there on their way home from a family trip to Queensland.  The timing of our operation revolved around this date – 15/10.

Naturally for an operation this large there were a multitude of blockers and those in New South Wales and Victoria required recruiting agents from more states.  A trip was also planned to Kangaroo Island to drop the green links there.  As many of the blockers were green, the plan was to have these links drop with a minimum of time before the links of the field were thrown.  In the week prior to op day everyone involved was filled with anticipation.

Finally the day arrived.  Many of our anchor teams had travelled prior to op day, but all were in place just before lunch on 15/10.  Our operators calmly called out the instructions and the blockers fell.  The first link was thrown by agent bluesuky at 12:09 CST.  Over the next 5 hours, 189 links were thrown by 8 different teams of people creating a massive 51,821,366 MU.  A record for our little state. We managed 63 of our planned 69 layers before a Resistance agent destroyed the SE anchor.

As most of our agents had travelled long distances for the op, they were all still in position the following morning when it was discovered there had been no links thrown which would prevent a partial rethrowing.  We were thankful for key farming and distribution over and above which was required when we managed to throw all the layers from Yorke Peninsula and 9 layers from Western Australia (our Port Lincoln agents were sadly busy).  This rethrow of 32 of our fields netted about 30M more MU.  The Resistance agent who had destroyed the SE anchor the day before did not reappear, but more RES agents destroyed first the Yorke peninsula fields, and later the WA ones.  By now the Port Lincoln agents were available once more so a single layer was thrown from there which survived Sunday night, allowing more Port Lincoln agents to add additional fields on the Monday.  Operation Godfather officially concluded at 15:03 on 17/10/16 with the destruction of the SE anchor.  There had been 51 hours of green blanketing Adelaide and much of inhabited South Australia.

Oh, and the agent for whom I made the plan?  He ended up having to work on 15/10.  I guess I’ll just have to come up with another plan…
